Surrounded by verdant trees and huge boulders, our open-air bath has only the sky as their ceiling. Soak in the hot baths as you gaze up at Hida’s starry skies. Comfort is provided by the breezes blowing through the mountains.

This bathhouse is bright and spacious. The expanse of picture windows along one side afford a panoramic view of the Gero onsen town and the Hida mountains.

The ceiling, walls, and columns for these baths have been specially made out of Japanese cypress. Shimodome is luxuriously designed with a hot bath, cool bath, Japanese cypress bath, and sauna, to provide a variety of ways guests can enjoy themselves. Outside the windows stretch a Japanese garden, making this a place of healing for both mind and body.

We have three reservable private onsen baths available, each with a different atmosphere. Each offers 100% Gero onsen water with velvety spring-water qualities. Choose whichever suits your preferences.
